兩星期前看了影碟, 是一直都很想看的一齣2005年英國電影. 故事講述1937年的英國, Mrs. Henderson在英國名流丈夫的葬禮後, 決心要好好生活下去, 一天經過Windwill Street上的Windmill Theatre殘破不堪, 於是把劇院買了下來, 希望找到一個歌舞劇攪手, 把劇院攪得有聲有色.
二次大戰時期, 歌舞劇不但是上流社會的娛樂, 亦充當勞軍的角色. 為了標奇立異及有別於其他劇院, Mrs. Henderson(Judi Dench)找來的製作人Vivian Van Damm(Bob Hoskins)要劇院天天都有表演, 還要廿四小時不停的演, 初時十分成功, 收穫豐厚, 但其他劇院相繼模仿, 競爭激烈, 他們的Windmill Theatre開始走入經濟困境. Henderson想到更激的對策, 就是要演員赤裸上身演出, 不過要通過負責審批戲劇上映的宮務大臣一關, 他們又想到聰明的取巧方法.
電影故事感人, 音樂很不錯, 歌舞表演精彩, 演員的演出都十分好, 兩位主角Judi Dench及Bob Hoskins當然不在話下. 雖然一把年紀, 卻沒有令人感到乏味. 喜歡飾演年輕貌美女演員Maureen的Kelly Reilly, 沒有驚豔的面孔, 但就是很耐看, 有一種懾人的魅力, 是電影中的舞台靈魂.
導演是Stephen Frears, 亦是即將在香港上映的電影"The Queen"(英女皇)的導演("The Queen"獲今屆奧斯卡多項提名: 最佳電影, 最佳導演, 最佳女主角, 最佳原創劇本, 最佳音樂, 最佳服裝等等), "Mrs. Henderson Presents"也是Frears近年的佳作.

agree. it's really quite a fun movie to watch. but it's very sad that someone has to die in the movie. i guess it's a way to make it not so rosy in that era?
i love mrs. henderson's friend (Lady Conway)... they are so funny together :)
lu: yes, a bit sad to have someone died, but it added some "ingredient" to the whole thing, and i like the way the film handled the relationship between henderson and van damm, not particularly romantic but nice.
